Edinburgh Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 9am to 2pm on Castle Terrace beneath the amazing Edinburgh Castle. It is the only Scottish Farmers Market that is accredited by FARMA which is quite an accolade in itself, while the market was established fifteen years ago. So, what does the Edinburgh Farmers Market have to offer its visitors? We went along to take a look and see.
Which Producers Sell at The Market?
There really is something for everyone at the Edinburgh Farmers Market with some fifty stalls all selling quality produce that is second to none. The atmosphere is welcoming and there is a great vibe all around as you pass by the excellent range of goods on offer. Visitors to the market can expect to see stalls selling

- Baking and Sweet Produce
- Speciality Produce
Goods that fall under the speciality produce banner include exquisite leather products, natural soap products, fabulous hand knitted Shetland woollies, fresh soups and Scottish tea. Fancy a delicious locally made pie or Scotch egg? You will find it here along with spicy chilli products and wonderful preserves, jams and chutneys.
Meat Fish and Dairy Produce
The list of products under this category is endless! Superb fish and shell fish, free range organic eggs, delicious cheeses, venison, beef, lamb, pork, poultry plus meat based products such as sizzling sausages and bacon all produced locally. The problem was as we walked around these stalls we felt that we wanted to buy everything! Make sure that you visit the market armed with cash as you will definitely want to buy the great produce sold here.
Fruit and Vegetables
There's a whole host of organic fruit and veg to be had here and some of the stall holders offer a delivery service too!
Baking and Sweet Produce
I just love freshly baked homemade bread and it's here in abundance. There are delicious pies and fabulous chocolates too so chocoholics beware the temptation is really high! Why not try one of the mouth-watering toasted sandwiches on offer or if it's something sweet you crave there are fluffy home-made marshmallows in a range of tempting flavours.
The Edinburgh Farmers Market is quite a social event too with cooking demonstrations and seasonal events such as organised Easter Egg Hunts, Pumpkin Carving at Halloween and Christmas Markets. Christmas hampers can be ordered at the market in the lead up to the festive season, while news regarding upcoming events may be viewed at the website.
